GLASS CONTAINERS

When I see a shipping container in transit, I wonder what it is holding.

I wonder how many items are held within it and are awaiting delivery to their determined destination? I think about the sender and receiver. From/for whom/where were they sent? Perhaps the objects that it contains could be a person’s entire worldly belongings from across an ocean or perhaps only a relatively unimportant parcel from only a city away. Or perhaps the container is empty. Even if it were possible to see the items within, we would still not know the full impact that the item or collection would hold for the receiver or sender. We would merely see the appearance of the objects and not their full importance or intent.

By making transparent container sculptures, the contents of each would be readily visible. This would also make visible notions about the relationship between a container and its contents as well as objects and their worth. The given volume of the equally sized containers could each be filled to 'capacity' of differing degrees to explore the limitations or ampleness of a container's avalable space.
